
Founded
in 1993, Mediterranea was born out of enthusiasm and a love of the
environment. Committed to respecting not only our ecological system
but to treating our customers, suppliers and employees with dignity,
respect, kindness and generosity. Our vision was to produce
a range of healthy vegetarian and vegan protein food that was both
nutritious and tasty. We also researched and sourced the highest
quality ingredients and hope to help to increase peoples’awareness
of life quality.
This philosophy has led to our using only certified organic raw ingredients
in all our products and a strong commitment to the GM free issue. This
ethical choice is a guarantee to our customer that all our ingredients,
especially the Soya (always more in danger of genetic modification),
are totally GM free. This is constantly monitored by our outside laboratory
which do further specific analyses for us.
Our recipes were originally based on the ancient knowledge of our oriental
ancestors. These have been improved over the years in accordance with
our customers’tastes, without compromising the fundamental nutritional
value.

With
the increasing popularity of Italian food worldwide, Mediterranea
joined a co-operative of other high quality organic food producers
in 2006 with the aim of enabling other countries to appreciate their
produce. Already gaining in popularity in the UK, the Seitan products
have been mentioned recently on a BBC Food programme.
Organic
farming follows the course of nature by growing crops without the
use of artificial fertilisers or pesticides. By eating organic
produce you are respecting your body and the environment.
In the past we all ate ‘organic’food as pesticides and
chemical fertilisers were not in use, so it is only recently that
the world is realising the potential dangers of tampering with nature
in this way. Now, more than ever before it is important to be aware
of the choices that we make. Organic production totally prohibits
the use of GM ingredients.
Every
6 months, the Veneto Agricoltura (Institute for Quality & Food
Agriculture Technology) certifies that the Soya used by Mediterranea
Srl is free from transgenetic DNA.
The
Italian Organic Certification Body (ICEA), which, translated,
is ‘Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification’ fully
certifies Mediterranea Srl’s products to European standards
CEE 2092/91.
